Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to identify audience safety risk factors based on the risk perceptions and accident experiences of performance safety practitioners and to propose audience safety management measures by analyzing accident characteristics according to performance size and venue type. Method: A survey was conducted among practitioners involved in performance and audience safety management. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed on the collected data, and chi-square tests were conducted to examine the relationships between performance size, venue type, and accident characteristics. Results: The most common accidents were fall-related accidents occurring in seating and stair areas, as well as crowd congestion and crowd pressure incidents. Significant relationships were found between performance size and accident areas, as well as between performance size and accident types. Conclusion: Audience safety accidents at performances were found to result from the combined effects of behavioral, environmental, organizational, and technical factors. Based on these findings, this study proposed audience safety management measures.
