Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the correlation between risk-taking propensity and workers’ safe and unsafe behaviors in construction sites. Method: Based on prior studies, a theoretical framework was established, and data were collected through surveys. The collected data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling(SEM) with IBM SPSS Statistics and Amos 26 programs. Result: Among the sub-factors of risk-taking propensity, sensitivity and avoidance had a significant positive effect on promoting safe behavior, while insensitivity and adventurousness did not show a statistically significant impact. Furthermore, interpersonal competence was found to play a crucial mediating role in the relationship between risk-taking propensity and safe behavior. Workers with higher risk sensitivity tended to participate more actively in risk assessments. Conclusion: Based on the findings, the importance of incorporating psychological factors into safety education and management strategies, in addition to physical safety measures, is emphasized. Training to enhance risk sensitivity and programs for developing interpersonal competence were confirmed to contribute to improving safety behavior.
