Purpose: There is a need to address the negative physical changes caused by exposure to fire scene environments. This study was conducted to investigate the damage to the epidermis caused by exposure to fire scenes in firefighters. Method: The study conducted surveys and measurements of firefighters participating in fire training conducted at Gyeonggi-do Fire Service Academy. Surveys and skin measurements were conducted on 31 firefighters during their break times before and after fire training. Skin measurements were performed using a video microscope. Result: Based on the survey results, firefighters believed that skin health is important for social activities and that hospital management is necessary. Significant damage was observed in all measurement items, and skin contamination was also present. This shows that it is difficult to prevent damage to skin health at fire scenes even when wearing protective equipment. Conclusion: Firefighters at fire scene are likely to suffer more severe adverse effects than those observed in this experiment, and research on methods to recover and maintain skin health is deemed necessary.
